Energy Prices have fallen from their highs in the session to around $141.00 a barrel at the close. Some profit taking from funds and speculators contributed to the sell-off. The market did hold 140.00 a barrel which is a bullish signal after many attempts late in the day to breakthrough it. Traders have many things to beware of this week. First off the World Petroleum Congress meeting in Madrid this week runs through Thursday. OPEC's President and Secretary General along with Oil Ministers from Nigeria, Russia, and Venezuela will be there. Also executives from BP, Exxon Mobil, and BP Shell will be in attendance also. You can bet they all will say prices are too high but until they can come together and raise production to somewhat meet strong world demand, nothing fundamentally will change unfortunately. Tomorrow the Department of Energy will release the crude and gasoline inventories at 9:35CST. My Guesstimates will call for a build of crude oil of a quarter million barrels and the same build for gasoline. Look for a slight build in distillates also. Because of the short holiday week look for traders not wanting to be stuck short the market over the 4th holiday weekend. Traders are also watching the verbal shouting match between Israel and Iran over Irans nuclear ambitions. This more than anything has traders on edge and definitely favors the bulls.

The Gold has been trading off the record high's in the Crude oil market.
The weakness in the U.S Dollar is directly due to the strength in the Crude oil.

AFTER AN AVALANCHE SELL-OFF YESTERDAY THE GOLD MARKET REBOUNDED ON VERY VOLATILE TRADING. WITH TTHE FOMC MEETING TODAY QAND AGAIN TOMORROW IT APPEARS TRADERS ARE A BIT TENTATIVE TO HOLD POSITIONS.
THE WEAKNESS IN THE U.S. DOLLAR STARTED THE MOMENTUM HIGHER IN THE GOLD MARKET. AS A SEASONED TRADER I HAVE SEEN MY SHARE OF WILD MARKETS.HOWEVER THIS CRUDE OIL MARKET IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART AND IS DIRECTLY AFFECTING THE GOLD MARKET(ESPECIALLY TO THE DOWN-SIDE).

As I write on the close the August Crude Oil has traded back above 136.00 a barrel. The market continues to advance, consolidate and advance again. It is but a matter of time until new highs are made again. The Saudi Government said it would increase production by 200,000 barrels a day bringing production to 9.7 million barrels a day next month. This is the third month in a row that the Saudis that the Saudis have raised production and each time time the market has ignored this limp response. The problem is the Saudi Crude is sour crude, its customers however need sweet crude which is low sulpher crude oil. The sweet crude is found in the form of Brent Crude from the North Sea and WTI from Texas and Oklahoma. After shrugging off the lows this morning as the dollar tanked the crude oil summarily rallied past 136.00 reaching a high just over 138.00 before pulling back to around 136.50 at the close.

TODAY'S GOLD MARKET REACTED OFF EARLY DOLLAR STRENGTH AND CAUSED A $20.00 + SELL-OFF. NEWS OUT OF SAUDI ARABIA STATING AN INCREASE IN OIL PRODUCTION GAVE THE U.S. DOLLAR EARLY STRENGH. HOWEVER AFTER CRUDE OIL TRADERS DETERMINED THE INCREASE IN PRODUCTION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO MEET DEMAND AND RALLIED 200 + IT HELPED PULL THE GOLD OFF IT'S LOWS AND SETTLE $16.50 LOWER ON THE DAY. I HAD THOGHT THEY WOULD CUT 1/2 POINT AFTER A "THIS SHOULD BE THE LAST CUT "/ MISSION ACCOMPLISHED DEMEANOR.AS I HAVE STATED THE ECONOMY CAN NOT BE QUICK FIXED....IT WILL RUN IT'S COURSE.......THIS TRADE HAS BEEN AS CLEAR AS MUD! TODAY'S GOLD TRADE WAS VERY CHOPPY AND VOLATILE.
REACTING TO A AVALANCHE SELL OFF / PROFIT TAKING TRADE IN THE CRUDE OIL THE GOLD MARKET CONTINUED TO TAKE YHE STEAM OUT OF THE BULLS SAILS.

Today's Gold trade was on the strong side from start to finish. I wanted to buy June Gold around $915.00 today...But I did not get the chance in the day session. This gold trade has certainly become "THE THUNDER DOME" "2 MEN ENTER ONE MAN LEAVES".........yikes!!!!!!!!!!!
There has been ample opportunity to make money (on both sidescof the market)...However Gold traders are very aware of the virgin territory we are trading and lack of technical history.

Another very volatile trade in the Gold market today.
The climate in the world is full of tension. The Middle-east fighting is heating up, The North Koreans are shootin rockets into the ocean again,and the U.S. economy is on a slippery slope just to name a few. These for the most part should al be bullish for GOLD.
However the FED continues to inject cash into these Credit markets ...giving short term benefits to the U.S. Dollar. Consider this...Over the last 7 months the Gold has rallied over $350.00...
This housing sector fiasco has been coming for along time. There is no quick fix!!! The economy will get worse before it gets better in my opinion...

Another CHOPPY & VOLATILE day trading Gold.
It certainly looked like both the Gold and Crude Oil markets were heading for the moon early.
April Gold was trading at $985.90 when The Federal Reserve announced it would pump $200 Billion Dollars into the Credit markets. This gave the U.S. Dollar a huge boost and tanked both
the Gold and Crude Oil markets causing gold to trade as low as $967.00. (966.00 on the electronic)....These days you have to work cheap....(take proits)......Or pay the price!

Today's Gold trade was a very volatile trade and extremely hard to get a handle on.
the gold shadowed thw Crude on the DOWN-side but had a very rough time trading back through the PIVOT on the UP-side.It appeared the trading community bought the poor UNEMPLOYMENT number at 7;30 am...I thought we would have a strong up move.
However the Crude Oil market broke and took the Gold downward ($10.00 in one hour) and despite a very roller-coaster trade in the CRUDE OIL the Gold only showed parallel movement on the down -side. i can not imagine why anyone would want to be short Crude Oil over the weekend with all the Geo-political tensions in the World....(I know there was profit taking,but I believe traders were picking a top to short....many think Crude is top heavy).........

The texas Oil refiery explosion in Big Springs, Texas not only caused the refinery to shut down it contributrd to Oil prices rising $3.70 per barrel today(at the Gold close). The trend continued today in the day session. Without a doubt this is a very strong gold market.
However it feels very top-heavy to me. Problems in South African gold mines (electrical fires) helped cut production and sent the Gold market as high as $921.00 today. However in my opinion it was a typical Friday late session profit take that caused the Gold to close at the $910.70 level.Many Traders expect yet another FOMC rate cut after the Tuesday/Wednesday meetings.this pending ???? cut may already be in the market. With the FOMC using an EMERGENCY RATE CUT (.75....down to 3.5 % ) to try and offset the PLUNGE of Global Markets. The Gold traded as low as $849.50 in the over night session.

Today's Gold market used the Middle-east tensions and a very bullish crude Oil market to climb to record highs. U.S. and Iraqi troops launched another surge against enemy insurgents.

ABC NEWS REPORTED "The Turkish army sent soldiers about 1.5 miles into northern Iraq in an overnight operation on Tuesday, Kurdish officials said. A Turkish official said the troops seeking Kurdish rebels were still in Iraq by mid morning." This with a poor Housing report sent crude Oil prices soaring EARLY...(Crude later sold off and actually was trading over 100 points lower on the day at the Gold close) and the Gold which always reacts to a war environment rallied and sustained a $8.20 move higher for the day. Despite a roller coaster trade in the night session (GOLD actually traded down below 802.00) after the FOMC 1/4 cut across the board the day session managed to close HIGHER than yesterday's close. we are talking about a $36.00 SWING! The U.S Dollar was 4 points lower and the amazing Crude Oil was 350 points HIGHER at the Gold close.
This is one resilient Gold market ....I am still long bull spreads.............

Today's Gold trade was very tentative in anticipation of the FOMC MEETING.
Despite a very strong Crude Oil market (up over 200 points at the Gold close) the Gold had a difficult time sustaining rallies due to an unusually up U.S. Dollar. Normally when Crude Oil and the Gold markets are up you would normally see a weaker Dollar. the Gold trade was extremely technical today trading between my SWING NUMBERS. nice $7.80 point range today.

The Gold market showed remarkable resilience today rallying from a opening range low of $793.00 to close at $807.10. The Gold trade reflected the roller-coaster path of the U.S Dollar
(high 76.80...low76.30).The Gold and Dollar move in opposite directions (MOST OF THE TIME) and when NEWS REPORTS (ABC NEWS) stated "HOME FORECLOSURES HIT ALL-TIME HIGH" certainly sent the Dollar spiraling downward and the Gold running to the upside.

The Gold traded in a brisk $8.80 point range today. I believe many traders took some profits before the EXPORT SALES and JOBLESS CLAIMS REPORTS due tomorrow at 7:30 am. Central standard time.The U.S. Dollar showed very impressive strength today(up 50points) and the Crude was higher(17 points) at the Gold session close.Gold actually had an impressive rally late to ONLY close $3.90 LOWER. The separation between Gold and the Crude Oil market continued today.
The U.S. Dollar was 22 points lower and remarkably the Crude Oil continued it's slide down 140 + points at the Gold close. Despite a lower Crude Oil session the Gold proved it's resilience and continues to reflect the weakness in the housing sector. Another STRONG session for the U.S. Dollar continues the Gold landslide.
The Gold community is not convinced the BULL market is over. You can tell by the BULL CALL option interest for February and April 2008. Today's Gold trade was very choppy with a nervous feel to it. It was the last trading day for December Gold so from today on I will be talking February Gold. the U.S Dollar showed lots of strength today due to the reports" Citigroup said late Monday that Abu Dhabi Investment Authority will invest $7.5 billion in the nations largest bank, offering needed capital to offset big losses from mortgages and other investments" and the falling oil prices due to reports their would be an increase in Oil production.BOTH these reports are very PRO U.S. Dollar.
